Stay Connected - Join Principal Vance on Twitter
Hello Roosevelt Community. I am entering the modern age of social media and setting up a Roosevelt Twitter account-RooseveltHS. This is in the beginning stages, so please be patient. My vision is to use Twitter to send out reminders of upcoming events and to update folks on other news, sports updates, other celebrations, etc. I look forward to finding more ways to keep folks informed and engaged with Roosevelt High School. Come and join me on Twitter at RooseveltHS.
Thank You,
Brian Vance

First Day Packets - Deadline September 2nd
If you would like to have something included in the First Day packets, please follow this format--8 1/2 X 11 paper. Double-sided is great--saves paper. If there two or more sheets, have the sheets stapled together. If you want your information to stand out, put it on colored paper.
Number of copies needed: *1650*. Deliver them to the RHS Library (right across the hall from the main office) by Thursday, September 2nd. Questions? Email Kim Henwood at school@corgipup.com.
Volunteers Needed to Help with First Day Packets - Sept 7th at 8 AM
Come help with First Day Packets! You've all waded through those packets on the first day of school--a manila envelope filled with forms, school district info, and details about many of the clubs at RHS. You've probably always wondered how those packets get assembled.
Come to the RHS library on Tuesday, September 7th at 8am to find out and lend a hand at collating and stuffing those envelopes! Parent AND student volunteers are welcome. The more help, the faster the job gets done. Students--bring your volunteer forms and we will sign them. Thanks! Kim Henwood at school@corgipup.com and Laura Navarro at lauranavarro@comcast.net --- First Day Packet Coordinators.

Information from the Freshman 101 Night held earlier in June
1. Summer Reading List
Summer Reading Assignment for Incoming 9th Graders.
2. Clarification of Timeline for Service Learning for Class of 2014
The district has clarified that incoming 9th graders may not start service learning towards the 60 hours required for high school graduation until they are “in 9th grade”, which means until the beginning of the 2010-2011 school year for the class of 2014. Accordingly, we gave out incorrect information to some students, based on what has been our past practice. And effective for the 2010-2011 school year, students in the class of 2014 may submit service learning hours carried out as of September 1, 2010 and later.

New AP Language Course
As of next school year, Roosevelt will be offering a yearlong Advanced Placement course called Language and Composition. It will be paired with American Literature and take the place of our American Literature requirement, and will be required for graduation starting with the class of 2012. Like other LA options, the course will eventually combine 11th and 12th graders, and for this reason, next year’s Juniors can take it next year or the year after that.
Please read the letter from David Grosskopf and Tom Nolet, Language Arts Co-Chairs for more information.
Interested in Being Involved This Year?
Roosevelt has many wonderful programs that just would not run without the time, energy and resources of parents, guardians and other volunteers. Please consider volunteering for one of the many PTSA committees or open Board position this year. Some of these are once/twice a month commitments, others are a one-time, short-term commitment while still others are ongoing, monthly commitments.
Check the open positions on the PTSA Roster and Committee page. You can find job descriptions for all of the Board and committee positions on the Volunteer Description page. If you have more questions, please contact a current PTSA Board or Committee member.
If you want to simply volunteer for an activity, please take a look at Volunteer page and sign up online for the activities that interest you.
