COUNSELING/CAREER CENTER

SENIORS FILLING OUT FINANCIAL AID FORMS--IF IT IS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE, IT PROBABLY IS!

As you and your parents/guardians are filling out the FAFSA for post high school financial aid, be sure that you are using FAFSA.gov website--which is free. If you are using FAFSA.com, and/or if anyone is charging you money to give you money, chances are its a scam. Check it out thoroughly before sending in any fee or any paperwork. If you have any questions or concerns, you can always talk to your school counselor IN ADVANCE of signing anything, paying anything or sending anything in via web or regular mail. W. Krakauer

SENIORS, WE NEED YOUR BRING IN STAMPED ADDRESSED ENVELOPES FOR FIRST SEMESTER GRADES BY 1/25/08 FOR MANY COLLEGE APPLICATIONS - Seniors, if you have applied to private colleges or public colleges that are asking for your first semester senior grades (mid year reports), please bring in to the counseling office stamped envelopes, addressed to the college admissions office, WITH YOUR NAME WRITTEN ON THE ENVELOPE IN A VISIBLE LOCATION, for each private college or public college specifically asking for first semester senior grades (e.g. UW does not want first semester grades, no UC college wants first semester grades, if you are applying to any college after mid February they will get first semester grades when you send your high school transcript). We need these stamped, addressed envelopes by 1/25/08, so that as soon as we get first semester grades entered and academic histories printed, we can get your mid year reports in the mail (our goal is to get all first semester grades out prior to mid winter break). See your counselor if you have any questions. W.Krakauer

FROM YOUR TEACHERS

PRINTING - Starting with the new semester, Roosevelt will allow students a total of 100 print-pages per semester. These will be allocated 50 pages each quarter. Additional pages can be purchased at the rate of $0.10 per page, in $2 increments from the school store. D.Norton-Middaugh

SENIORS - Please note that your Senior Projects are due for completion on February 29th. Please complete a Certificate of Completion and return to Mr. Hanbey to verify your results. Get this from your American History teacher or on the door of room 219. R.Hanbey

ITALIAN EXCHANGE – Would you like to be part of a cultural exchange to a high school in Northern Italy? The first informational meeting will be Jan. 23 at 2:30 in Rm. 109. This meeting will be repeated on Jan. 24 because of finals week. For more information contact Ms. Hathaway.

FRENCH CLASS TA NEEDED – I need a former AP student or someone who speaks French to be a TA for periods 1-4. Please see Ms. Hilliard in Rm. 133. L.Hilliard

TRAFFIC EDUCATION – The next after school Traffic Education program starts February 2, 2008. Registration will be Wednesday, January 23 at 2:30 p.m. in Rm. 133. Applications are in the Counseling Office and will be accepted until January 31, 2008. M.Gamble

ASB/CLUBS/GROUPS

IS THERE A DEADLINE FOR TURNING IN MY ATHLETIC PAPERS? – To insure that your paperwork is processed before the start of the season, you should have it turned into the Main Office by February 8th. To be on the roster for tryouts your paperwork must be processed. You may bring your athletic paperwork to the Main Office before or after school and during both lunches. Make sure you have an activity card, and you have paid all fees & fines before you turn in your packet. Do not turn in paperwork to your coach. R.Olson

LIBRARY

A STRENUOUS LIFE 1990 – The cover replicated the one used from 1924-1930 with a banner and seal. However, the early seal was of Teddy Roosevelt.

IT’S NEW AND IT’S ON THE SHELF – Romiette and Julio by Sharon M. Draper. Romiette, an African-American girl, and Julio, a Hispanic boy, discover that they attend the same high school after falling in love on the Internet, but are harassed by a gang whose members object to their interracial dating.

COMIXTRAVAGANZA – The free comics and graphic novels festival begins in area branches of the Seattle Public Library. Stop by the RHS library for time and details.

ART RETURNS TO ROOSEVELT – Historic and new artworks were installed over the winter break. The new display case in the front entrance hall has a copy of the Rooseveltian Creed. Read what earlier generations of Roughriders valued.

HAPPY NEW YEAR – Today is the Jewish holiday of Tu B’shevat, the new year of the tree. Go to http://www.jewfaq.org/holiday8.htm to learn more about this holiday.
