Extra, Extra, Read all about it! Roosevelt News needs YOU! If you are interested in becoming a writer or a photographer for The Roosevelt News, pick up a hot-off-the-press 2009-10 application in room 235. Cartoonists are also welcome. Deadline for all applications is May 13th.
SUBMIT YOUR SENIOR PLANS REPORT ASAP Seniors, hopefully on May 1st you got in your second period class or first class at Roosevelt, your Senior Plans Report. It is vey important that you return this form to the Counseling Office ASAP but in any event, by 5/15, along with a stamped, addressed envelope so that we can mail your final transcript to whatever vocational school, two year college or four year college you plan to attend next year. Even if you are not going to school next year we still need your form back so that we know that you plan to work, travel, join the military or are undecided. We also want to know for Senior Awards Night on 5/27, whether you have received any scholarships outside of Roosevelt. If you did not get a form check with your second period teacher first. And if your teacher does not have it, come get another form from the Counseling Office. W. Krakauer

Seniors, another reminder that if you want to graduate, 60 hours of service learning must be completed, with docuementation submitted to the Counseling Office, by 5/15/09. This requirement cannot be waived. See your counselor with any questions or concerns. W. Krakauer

Juneteenth Education Queen Pageant-is seeking applicants between the ages of 15-19 who are committed to serving the community and believe in the power of education. Applications and details are available in the Career Center.
Washington State Math Olympiad Service Learning Opportunity-will be held on May 2nd from 7am-3pm at Mercer Middle School. Volunteer help is needed. See “Service Learning Board” across the hall from the Career Center for details.
Exploring College Options Student/Parent Information Sessions-will be held on Sunday, May 17th at the Hilton in Bellevue and Monday, May 18th at SEATAC. Representatives from Duke, Georgetown, Harvard, Penn, and Stanford will be available. See www.exploringcollegeoptions.org.

RHS STUDENT ART FUND PROJECT Last chance to sign up for the first RHS Student Art Fund Project. Will work with an artist in residence to create a stencil type self-portrait, which will be permanently mounted in the halls of Roosevelt! It is a 5 day after school commitment – the week of May 11th. Sign up outside Ms. Otto’s Rm. 251 or at lunch in the Commons on Wednesday – May 6th. CO
RIDER/RIDERETTES SHOWCASE Hey Roosevelt, on May 14th your Rider/Riderettes will be hosting a showcase full of not only dancing, but other performances as well. More info will be coming soon. For those interested in being in the show, talk to one of the dancers. MB

INVISIBLE CHILDREN ASR is hosting T-Shirt making for those signed up for invisible children’s The Rescue. Come to the courtyard at 2:30 on Wednesday, 4/22 and bring your own shirt. Spray paint and stencils provided. MB

A STRENUOUS LIFE 1951– Tradition assemblies at Roosevelt included Sports assemblies, pep assemblies, the Girls’ Club Inauguration, a traditions assembly and an organ concert. For the first time, senior pictures are at the end of the annual. On a different note, lunches were a quarter.
IT’S NEW AND IT’S ON THE SHELF – Hana Kimi by Hisaya Nakajo. Japanese-American track-and-field star Mizuki has been transfered to a school in Japan where her idol Izumi Sano attends; however, it is an all-boy school and Izumi is her roommate.
COINCIDENCE? I THINK NOT! – Yesterday was both National Teacher Day and Paranormal Day.
