UW in High School - Feb. 15th

UW in High School....that is correct! Come to our PTSA meeting at 7:00PM in the RHS Library to hear how your student might earn college credits this spring. Tim Stetter, coordinator for the University of Washington, College in High School program, will make a presentation about the new Language Arts (LA) classes being offered to our students at RHS.

The classes will be taught by Roosevelt LA teachers who work closely with the University to develop a rigorous curriculum. The students will be challenged with college level materials in an age appropriate environment; developing their study skills and earning a grade (credit) based on the full semesters work. UW in High School is fee based but cost effective way to earn college credits. Tim will be able to answer your questions about the UW in High School program at our PTSA meeting. Whether you are a parent or a student, this meeting will provide useful information about this opportunity at our school.

Winter Weather Email From Seattle School District

How to Find Out If Your School is Delayed or Canceled‏---Content from the Email Sent On 11/18/11 from the SSD Office of Public Affairs)

Dear families,

When we are expecting snow or inclement weather, a Seattle Public Schools central office team continually monitors conditions across the district. That includes having staff drive some of the streets that are typically more treacherous in snow and ice.

After consulting with other agencies, a decision is made about whether to delay school by two hours or if a closure is necessary. That decision is typically made by 5:30 a.m.

We communicate to staff and families in the following ways:

  • Information is immediately sent to all Seattle TV and radio stations
  • Information is posted on www.seattleschools.org
  • Families will receive an automated phone call via School Messenger
  • Check www.SchoolReport.org

Staff and families will receive one of the following four messages:
  1. Seattle Public Schools: Two hours late – buses operating on snow routes. No door-to-door service. No Preschool or Head Start.
  2. Seattle Public Schools: Two hours late – buses operating on regular routes. No door-to-door service. No Preschool or Head Start.
  3. Seattle Public Schools: Schools closed.
Transportation: “Snow route” means that buses only run on roads that are maintained by the City that receive snow removal. Students who ride buses will receive notice of snow routes in the U.S. mail the week of Nov. 21.

Please note: During winter weather conditions, safety is our top priority. Our buses may run up to an hour late in the afternoon during slick weather conditions.

Thank you,

Office of Public Affairs
