A Weekly Splash of RHS News. We highlight programs and activities of interest for families and guardians of Roosevelt High School students. The most time-sensitive news runs first, followed by general and previously posted items. Check www.rhsseattle.org for important articles received after this weekly post. Submission Rules. Please email your items (Only 125 words, max) to Tracy Romoser with the subject line “RHS PTSA Bulletin” by 5 p.m. the Friday prior to the week you want them published. Items run for two weeks.
Limited Summer School Spots Still Available for Credit Retrieval. If you are realizing you are failing a second semester academic course, or still need to retrieve credit from previous semesters, see your counselor right away. There are a limited number of summer school spaces still available for some classes. Summer school runs July 6 - August 5, there is no cost and it runs daily from 8:45 a.m.-12:25 p.m. w. krakauer
Memorial for Bonnie Melnik. Bonnie Melnik, former long-time secretary at Wedgwood Elementary School, died June 1 after a year-long battle with a brain tumor. There will be a memorial on Saturday, June 12 at 4:30 at the Ravenna-Eckstein Community Center (6535 Ravenna Ave N) for anyone who wishes to attend.
RHS Jazz events. Monday, June 14 at 7:30 p.m.: Jazz Bands II, III and Vocal Jazz will be performing at their End-of-Year Jazz Concert on Monday in the Roosevelt HS Theatre. Admission is free. Friday, June 18 at 7:30 p.m.: Jazz Band I will perform their End-of-Year Jazz Band Concert in the Roosevelt Theatre. Admission is free.
More Kudos for RHS Kiddos. Davis Lockett ( senior at RHS) was part of the Varsity 8 boat that rowed to victory in the Regional Championships held this May in Vancouver, WA. The next day he also rowed to victory in the Varsity 4. As a result, he travels with his team (Mt Baker Rowing) to Cincinnati, Ohio to row in the Junior National Championships. His younger brother, Stuart Lockett who is a junior at RHS, rowed to a second place finish in the Junior Varsity 8 boat on the same weekend.
Hoops, Hoops, Hoops! Don’t miss your chance to see the Rider Classic Basketball Tournament and how the Roosevelt Men’s Basketball team stacks up against next year’s prospects from 20 high school teams around the Northwest. It’s the “Rider Classic” basketball tournament June 11 -13 in the Ben Snowden Gym. Rider Classic Basketball Tournament June 11 – 13. Adults $5; Students $3. On a related note: The Roosevelt Men’s Basketball team is hosting a summer basketball day camp for Boys grades 4 through 9. Please pass the word to younger siblings, friends and neighbors who might be interested. It’s your chance to learn from RHS head coach Bart Brandenburg and players from the Roosevelt team. Colleges have and will rescind admission if students wind up with awful, awful grades in core academic classes. Finish high school on a positive note, ready to start new adventures in the fall. Tell the kids to keep working hard through June 14. And STAY OUT OF TROUBLE!
