TONIGHT! PUBLIC HEARING ON ROOSEVELT REZONE Monday, Sept 19, 6pm. RHS Auditorium. A new Sound Transit station will be built underground on the QFC lot on 12th Avenue. There is a City legislative rezone proposal to increase density and provide more affordable housing around the station by raising height limits near the project. Height limits would go from 40ft to 65ft south of Roosevelt HS and from 65ft to 85ft across 12th Avenue west of the school. Email your RHS PTSA co-presidents Sharon Rodgers and Peter Nestingen with your comments: this will have a big impact on Roosevelt HS and we would like to share the top concerns and values at the Public Hearing. Background information: City Council Aug 10 meeting video, City Documents, Roosevelt Neighborhood Association.

SOPHOMORES: TAKE THE PLAN This practice test for the ACT is available to all sophomores – you are strongly encouraged to participate. It is an excellent way to prepare for college entrance exams and to continue sorting out career interests. The PLAN will be administered September 28th in the Roosevelt theatre 8:00 – 11:00. You can sign up in the bookroom September 20, 21, 26 and 27 before school and during both lunches. The cost is $12.00. Fee waivers can be obtained from your counselor. You will be taking the PSAT in October; having scores from both the PLAN and PSAT will help you to determine whether the ACT or the SAT is your preferred test for college admission. Frank Heffernan,RHS Counselor.
FIRST SEMESTER ACADEMIC PE WAIVERS FOR SENIORS Seniors, if you still need TWO or THREE PE classes to graduate and plan on taking care of one of those classes with an academic waiver for first semester, please pick up a waiver form from the counseling office, complete the form (along with necessary signatures and providing your first semester schedule on the back), and turn it in to your counselor by the end of the school day Monday 9/19. In general you are eligible for an academic waiver only if you have six classes, have never been a TA in your high school career and your first semester schedule is full with academics/performing arts/annual, news staff/ASR/other graduation requirements. NOTE: students at any grade level who are wanting to get a PE waiver for sports outside of Roosevelt: see your counselor to discuss the strict eligibility requirements, pick up the time log form which you and your coach will both need to complete before applying for the waiver and keep in mind that if you want a waiver for any outside sport for the 2011-2012 school year, then you need to complete all requirements/submit the waiver and log before the end of the 2011-2012 school year—we cannot give you any waivers for any school year other than the current school year. See your counselor with questions. Wendy Krakauer, Head Counselor.
TRYING TO MAKE SCHEDULE CHANGES? September 9 - September 20 Students may come in and sign up for appointments with their counselor to see if they can change their schedules, class size permitting, Note: we do not normally make teacher changes within a subject unless we are moving you to a smaller class. Wendy Krakauer, Head Counselor.
HOST FAMILY NEEDED A host family is needed for a High School Foreign Exchange student for the 2011/2012 school year. A potential host family is needed for students coming from the following countries: Germany, Brazil, Sweden, Spain, Vietnam, Austria, Denmark, South Korea, China, Norway, Belgium, Thailand, Japan and France. Students come with good English skills, full health insurance and their own personal spending money, and mainly the desire to be a member of an American family. We ask our families to provide a bed (shared room is okay with similar age range) and meals eaten with the family. For more information about the students and the program, contact Jamin Henderson at 360-661-0552 or j.henderson33@hotmail.com.
