RECOMMENDATIONS NEEDED FOR GOLDEN ACORN AWARD

Each year the Roosevelt PTSA gives Golden Acorn Awards to people who have given exemplary volunteer service to children and youth in our school community. The Golden Acorn Award is very special and is given for continued and dedicated service. This is an excellent way to honor PTSA members for their contributions.

We would like you to participate in the selection of our award recipient(s) through your recommendations. Please download a Golden Acorn Nomination Form, or pick one up in the Main Office, and return it by April 30, 2009, to Kari Monsen at john.kari@comcast.net, drop it off in the Main Office, or mail to 8705 25th Avenue NE, Seattle, WA 98115.

SEATTLE COUNCIL PTSA E-NEWS

We’re down to the wire. Even if you’ve called or emailed before, please do so again. We especially need to reach key leaders:

Gov. Gregoire: (360) 902-4111, or Gov. Gregoire

Sen. Brown: (360) 786-7604, or brown.lisa@leg.wa.gov

Speaker Chopp: (360) 786-7920, or chopp.frank@leg.wa.gov

Tell them you are calling in support of education finance reform and want the strongest bill possible – and that’s ESHB 2261, passed by the House 71-26.

If you need more info, here’s why:

- High-risk kids need early education. It’s a smart upfront investment that pays for itself academically and socially

- Kids need a six-period day to get the credits they need for college

- Kids need Core 24, and not just the college-bound ones. ALL KIDS need the skills employers require, and that means more math, science and language courses

- Kids need great teachers

- Impending cuts are going to hurt schools and kids. We need a plan in place NOW on how to rebuild and create the system kids need.

These principles were part of the Basic Education Finance Task plan endorsed by the Washington PTA, the Seattle Council PTSA and the Seattle School Board.
