PE CBA for Students in the Class of 2013 and 2014 Mandatory PE CBA for Students in the Class of 2013 and 2014. Juniors if you want to graduate, no matter how many PE classes or waivers you have, if you have NOT taken the Personal Fitness PE class at Roosevelt, you WILL need to take the PE CBA, a 45 minute multiple choice test, on 3/13 (last name A-K) or 4/10 (last name L-Z). Show up in the Theatre at 9am on your assigned day, with a #2 non mechanical pencil. Both dates are late arrival days so you will not miss any class time. Seniors, if you missed this test last year for any reason, including because you are new to Roosevelt, you also need to show up on the appropriate day. If the assigned date conflicts with needing to take the writing HSPE on 3/13, or seniors, with your assigned senior project presentation date, it is your responsibility to contact your counselor and make alternate arrangements. This is a requirement for graduation. Here is the link to a short study guide. Read through the study guide and you will be able to pass the test.

Hands for a Bridge. Students interested in applying to Hands for a Bridge — applications will be available beginning 2nd lunch. Look for them outside of HFB teachers’ rooms: Ms. Grace, Ms. Kenney Hall, Mr. Nolet, Ms. Macdonald, Mr.Katz. Applications are due Tuesday, February 26th!

Would you like a voucher for a partial scholarship for the SAT Prep class offered by SAT Prep.org?There is a class starting 3/19, taught at Roosevelt (for May 5/4 SAT) and another one starting 4/24 taught at Nathan Hale (for 6/1 SAT). See your counselor and let her or him know why you think you are a good candidate for one of the vouchers.

The Summer Opportunities bulletin is posted on the Counseling Webpage. Follow the links from www.roosevelths.seattleschools.org - go to Services / Counseling / Summer Opportunities (link at the top of the page). Time now to plan for an extraordinary summer. (Dr. B)

Need WA State History to graduate? Students in any grade, do you still need Washington State History to graduate? Are you interested in attending a “class” in person rather than completing a self study packet under the auspices of our esteemed Mr. Katz? If so, the District is offering a one time opportunity to take a class at the District Office, eight sessions, on Tuesdays at 4-6:00pm, starting 2/26 and ending 6/4. See your counselor or Mr. Katz (#107) right away if you are interested in signing up.

SENIORS

Ken and Kathy Reid Scholarship Fund. Cobalt Mortgage and Partner Donors have teamed up to award almost $100,000 in Scholarships for students state-wide, ranging from $1000-$4000 in amount. Starting February 1st, students can apply online at www.CobaltScholars.org and the deadline for submission is March 15th. To be eligible for this scholarship you must be age 25 or under and be a high school senior at Roosevelt High School with plans to attend a four-year post-secondary institution. Applications will be evaluated based on merit and financial need, along with a combination of factors such as community service, leadership and unusual circumstances. Don't forget to look at the other scholarships they offer at the Cobalt sight, including one for those attending Washington State University.

Graduating seniors living in District 43: an opportunity for recognition. Are you applying to only WA public or private 4-year colleges and universities? Do you have a GPA of at least 3.70 or better? You may be interested in being nominated for the WA Scholars recognition program. If you wish to be considered for nomination, email Dr. Beaston by Tuesday, Febr 12, 3 pm. Other things that you need to include: a resume or information sheet of your leadership activities, community service activities, honors and awards, & miscellaneous school and other activities. (Don't spend a lot of time creating one-use the one you used for your college applications). It is very helpful for you to have your community service hours recorded in our system, (as your transcript will be a part of the application) but not required. We can nominate 3 students. PS. Find your legislative district.
