The Roosevelt High School Annual Fund Drive is underway!
Our goal: $90,000 in three weeks!!
The Annual Fund provides the school with a much-needed safety valve to protect us from the uncertainly of state funding. All the money raised through this appeal will go directly into our school's budget, allowing school administrators to use it where the need is greatest.
In order to be counted toward next year's budget, all donations must be received by March 8, so make your contribution today! Send your check in the reply envelope enclosed with your student's grades, or pay via credit card to the RHS Annual Fund Account on the Alliance for Education website.
Your donations will go into the RHS account at the Alliance for Education which is a 501(c)(3) charitable institution; all contributions are fully tax-deductible. More information about the Fund Drive can be found here on the RHS website.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
Diversity Week is here! The most exciting week of the year has finally arrived: decorations in the hallways, clubs selling food at lunch on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, as well as a Speaker on Monday and our Annual Diversity Week Assembly on Friday. Our theme is "We Ride Better Together" and we took that and ran this year. We partnered up with See Your Impact.org to move beyond the food and dance. This amazing organization worked with students to choose three local and three global charities to raise awareness and funds. Please check out roosevelt.seeyourimpact.org for more information about homelessness here in Seattle, healthy gardens for families in Olympia, WA and Rwanda as well as much needed medical attention and education access for students in India and the Dominica Republic. We kick-off our "We Ride Better Together Campaign on Monday with our guest speaker and are running the campaign through the month of March. We are reaching out to students, parents and the greater community to help support our chosen causes. Ask your students what they observed this week about others, the decorations in the hallways, our guest speaker and assembly on Friday. This week truly is the highlight of the school year! Melissa R Boswell, Roosevelt HS Activity Coordinator

Juniors, if you want to graduate, no matter how many PE classes or waivers you have, if you have NOT taken the Personal Fitness PE class at Roosevelt, you WILL need to take the PE CBA, a 45 minute multiple choice test, on 3/13 (last name A-K) or 4/10 (last name L-Z). Show up in the Theatre at 9am on your assigned day, with a #2 non mechanical pencil. Both dates are late arrival days so you will not miss any class time. Seniors, if you missed this test last year for any reason, including because you are new to Roosevelt, you also need to show up on the appropriate day. If the assigned date conflicts with needing to take the writing HSPE on 3/13, or seniors, with your assigned senior project presentation date, it is your responsibility to contact your counselor and make alternate arrangements. This is a requirement for graduation. Here is the link to a short study guide. Read through the study guide and you will be able to pass the test.

COUNSELING and CAREER CENTER NEWS
High School Proficiency Exam (HSPE) All 10th grade students will take the Reading and Writing HSPE this March. In addition to all 10th graders testing any 11th or 12th graders who has not passed either the Reading or Writing HSPE will need to take the HSPE in March as well. Students are required to pass the Reading and Writing HSPE as a graduation requirement so it is important students take this test in March. The writing HSPE will take place on March 12th and 13th at 8am in classrooms. This is a two day test so it is vital that students attend both days. The Reading HSPE will be on March 14th also at 8am in classrooms. These days will be late arrival days, so all 10th grade students and any 11th or 12th graders who need to test will need to arrive early to test. A list of classroom assignments will be located a week prior to testing outside of the Counseling office, please have your child check the list so they know what room they will be testing in on March 12, 13 and 14. Students will be testing in the same room the entire 3 days. If you have any questions, please contact Erin Bailey Academic Intervention Specialist at 252-4824 or eebailey@seattleschools.org.
Second Semester After School Credit Retrieval. Students, if you are NOT in the class of 2016, and need to retrieve credit to graduate in language arts or social studies (as well as in science in limited circumstances), you should be getting an “invitation” this week from your counselor to participate in the second semester after school P.A.S.S. credit retrieval class. Roosevelt pays half of the $150 cost of this program and your family contributes the other half ($75.00/$40 for f/r lunch eligible). If you do not get an invitation, and you want to get the application, see your counselor ASAP (the class does fill up, with spots available on a first come, first serve basis. The sign up deadline is 2/27/13, and the class, which takes place after school on Wednesdays and Thursdays, starts 3/7/13.
