RHS Annual Fund - $55,000 raised in 3 weeks!

As of Friday, March 8, the Annual Fund Drive has raised approximately $55,000. Many thanks to the RHS families who donated during this 3 week window. If you didn’t have a chance to send in a Fund Drive contribution – it’s not too late! Our school administrators still have some budgeting flexibility: if you send in a donation NOW.

Make an on-line donation or pick up an envelope in the main office for checks or credit card charges. And don’t forget to ask your employer about matching funds. Your support matters!

-- RHS Annual Fund Committee

Your donations will go into the RHS account at the Alliance for Education which is a 501(c)(3) charitable institution; all contributions are fully tax-deductible. More information about the Fund Drive can be found here on the RHS website.

Attention RHS Parents/Guardians of students receiving Special Education Service: Parent/Guardian Meeting, Monday, March 18, 7-9pm in the RHS Library. We are starting an informal group for RHS parents/guardians of students receiving special education services. The idea is to have a place where we can meet each other, get support, share ideas and resources, and discuss common issues and concerns. All interested parents/guardians are welcome. Contact: Peggy Peterson at pegpete56@yahoo.com, RHS PTSA Special Education Liaison.

Upcoming Science Lecture. Thursday, March 28th at 7:30pm in the RHS Library. The Roosevelt Science Boosters are sponsoring a free evening lecture: Dr. Samuel Wasser, Director of the Center for Conservation Biology at the University of Washington will give a talk on "Using DNA Forensic Science to Combat the Illegal Ivory Trade". All are encouraged to come learn about how modern techniques of DNA mapping and sequencing, many of which have come out of the Human Genome Project, are being employed to save the lives of some endangered animals.

AP Test Registration. Registration begins the week of March 4th. Counselors will be registering students in some of the AP classes - students can check with their AP teachers about this schedule. Students can also register in the counseling office March 8th through 13th. The cost per exam is $89. Please make checks payable to Roosevelt High School. If your student receives free/reduced lunch or otherwise qualifies as low income the cost is $5 per test. Please have your student see their counselor for a fee waiver prior to registering. The deadline to register is March 13th.

HSPE Testing and Senior Project Presentations. It is that time of year again. On March 12, 13, and 14 all of our 10th grade students will be taking the High School Proficiency Exams in Reading and Writing and some of our 12th grade students will be presenting their senior projects. We will have alternate schedules on each of those days. Click here to view the schedules.

PE CBA for Students in the Class of 2013 and 2014 Mandatory PE CBA for Students in the Class of 2013 and 2014. Juniors if you want to graduate, no matter how many PE classes or waivers you have, if you have NOT taken the Personal Fitness PE class at Roosevelt, you WILL need to take the PE CBA, a 45 minute multiple choice test, on 3/13 (last name A-K) or 4/10 (last name L-Z). Show up in the Theatre at 9am on your assigned day, with a #2 non mechanical pencil. Both dates are late arrival days so you will not miss any class time. Seniors, if you missed this test last year for any reason, including because you are new to Roosevelt, you also need to show up on the appropriate day. If the assigned date conflicts with needing to take the writing HSPE on 3/13, or seniors, with your assigned senior project presentation date, it is your responsibility to contact your counselor and make alternate arrangements. This is a requirement for graduation. Here is the link to a short study guide. Read through the study guide and you will be able to pass the test.

Diversity Week Fundraising – See Your Impact. As a part of the Diversity Week events, we partnered up with See Your Impact.org to move beyond the food and dance. This amazing organization worked with students to choose three local and three global charities to raise awareness and funds. Please check out http://roosevelt.seeyourimpact.org for more information about homelessness here in Seattle, healthy gardens for families in Olympia, WA and Rwanda as well as much needed medical attention and education access for students in India and the Dominica Republic. The campaign runs through the month of March. We are reaching out to students, parent and the greater community to help support our chosen causes.

Dress to Impress Sale Wrap-up. Many thanks for your donations! We really appreciate the generous Roosevelt families, staff and friends who donated clothing & accessories for our recent Dress To Impress Sale. This fundraiser helped raise money towards the Class of 2014 graduation activities, and added to the clothing resources of Roosevelt Drama, as well as several charities. Thanks also to the volunteers who helped us set-up, staff and clean-up after the sale. Lastly thanks to our shoppers too - we hope you enjoy your bargain purchases!
