Roosevelt PTSA Board nominations for 2013-14: We are looking for people to support the students at Roosevelt by serving on our PTSA Board in both elected and appointed positions - our nominating committee would love to hear from you! We have candidates for several positions but are still looking for more - we’d love to have you join us!

Education Funding Resolution: The Roosevelt HS PTSA passed a resolution urging the Washington State Legislature to address K-12 funding by complying with the requirements of the State Supreme Court McCleary decision (which found that WA State was not complying with the state constitution regarding funding for education). Read the full resolution here.

Beauty and the Beast: Spring Musical Opening May 22. Tickets on sale via showtix4U.com starting on May 1. Performance dates: May 22, 23, 30, 31 & June 1 at 7:30pm, June 2 at 2:30pm.

Food Drive This week. April 29 through May 3 is Spring Service Week. There will be a non-perishable food drive to aid NW Harvest. Please bring whatever you can to help. Thanks! ASR

Apply to participate in the Seattle Youth Commission! Are you interested in working for positive change on behalf of young people in Seattle? If so, apply to be a Youth Commissioner for the Seattle Youth Commission. No prior experience with local government is necessary. Commission meetings are every Wednesday from 4- 5pm at City Hall during the school year, and every other Wed. during the summer from June, 2013 to June, 2014. Applications are available in the Counseling Office, or go to seattle.gov/syc/apply.htm to apply online. The application and references are due Friday, May 10. STUDENT CLUBS & ACTIVITIES

Sports Boosters Are you spirited? Do you like to color? Have you always wanted to carry around a large box of markers? Try out for Sports Boosting! Mandatory meeting for current sophomores and juniors on Monday, April 29th and Tuesday, April 30th. Must attend one of these meetings to try out.

Dance Team Tryouts Interested in trying out for dance team? There will also be a clinic offered May 8th. For more information contact any dance team member.

Video Game Tournament Hey Roughriders just a reminder the Super Smash Bros Mele tournament is on May 1st and this is a 2 vs. 2 tournament. So find a partner the sign up sheet will be outside of Room 109. There will also be snacks and sodas – so be there.

COUNSELING & CAREER CENTER NEWS

Service Learning Opportunity at Bryant Elementary School Have fun and earn service learning hours at the same time by volunteering at the Bryant Elementary School Wild West Blast, 5/18/13. The event is 1-5pm with shifts starting at 12:45pm and ending at 5:15pm. To sign up, get the application form from the Counseling Office Secretary or download it from the school website. Fill out the form including your full legal name and birthday, and return no later than 5/3/13 to Marina Kemel. The contact information is provided on the application form. Questions? SENIORS

The Graham & Dunn Scholarship is now available. It is worth $2,500 for the first year of college and eligible for renewal for an additional year. While any 2013 graduating student who meeting the requirements may apply, they are particularly looking for students who have shown the ability to overcome significant challenges or obstacles in life, and who may be financially challenged in paying for college. Applications in the Counseling Office.

Graduating Seniors: Are you going to North Seattle Community College next fall? Do you have a 3.0 or higher GPA? Are you are a resident of WA, US citizen or eligible non-citizen? I may have a scholarship for you! Let me know who you are! Email Dr Beaston. Deadline: April 30, 2013.

Seniors: Along with graduating, do you want to attend prom and get your yearbook ontime? Completing your senior project and completing 60 hours of service learning are both graduation requirements that cannot be waived. But if you want to attend prom, then ALL of your senior project paperwork, including the final reflection, must be submitted, and you must have passed your presentation no later than 5/15/13. See your senior project advisor ASAP if you have any questions about this.

AND, if you want to get the final yearbook of your high school career on time, on 6/4/13, then you need to make sure that you have completed, documented and submitted the paperwork for 60 hours of service learning by 5/22/13. Talk to your counselor right away if you have questions about this requirement.

Prom, Spree and Sr. Luncheon: the all night, drug-and-alcohol free post graduation party. Tickets are on sale every Thursday. Spree tickets now cost $140. Prom tickets are $45. The week of prom tickets go up to $55. Sr. Luncheon is $12. When you purchase your ticket, there are 2 forms you need to complete: ticket order form and a release form . Please submit both completed forms with your payment on one of the Thursday sale dates. The forms can be downloaded from the RHS Seniors facebook or the Senior Events page on the PTSA website (rhsseattle.org).

COMMUNITY NEWS
Seattle Public Schools Building Bridges for Summer Learning symposium

Saturday, May 18, 10:00-2:30 pm

Garfield High School (400 23rd Ave, Seattle, WA 98122

Workshops for families, staff, and community partners on how to help our students prevent learning loss over the summer. There will also be a Summer Learning Community Resource Fair. Morning snack and lunch will be served. Supervised children's activities, transportation, and interpreters will be available. All families invited to attend this free event. More info.
