SENIORS

Seniors: Along with graduating, do you want to attend prom and get your yearbook ontime? Completing your senior project and completing 60 hours of service learning are both graduation requirements that cannot be waived. But if you want to attend prom, then ALL of your senior project paperwork, including the final reflection, must be submitted, and you must have passed your presentation no later than 5/15/13. See your senior project advisor ASAP if you have any questions about this.

AND, if you want to get the final yearbook of your high school career on time, on 6/4/13, then you need to make sure that you have completed, documented and submitted the paperwork for 60 hours of service learning by 5/22/13. Talk to your counselor right away if you have questions about this requirement.

Prom, Spree and Sr. Luncheon: the all night, drug-and-alcohol free post graduation party. Tickets are on sale every Thursday. Spree tickets now cost $140. Prom tickets are $45. The week of prom tickets go up to $55. Sr. Luncheon is $12. When you purchase your ticket, there are 2 forms you need to complete: ticket order form and a release form . Please submit both completed forms with your payment on one of the Thursday sale dates. The forms can be downloaded from the RHS Seniors facebook or the Senior Events page on the PTSA website (rhsseattle.org).

Beware of mail from “Student Financial Resource.” As your student gets close to graduation and ready to move on, you may be getting e-mails or a mailing form the “Student Financial Resource Center”. “Student Financial Resource” has many complaints lodged against them in many states. In general, be wary of any solicitation requiring you to pay money in order to get scholarships, financial aid or any type of financial assistance for college. Typically they are only making available to you what you can find out elsewhere for free. And always check out such offers with consumer protection organizations, the Better Business Bureau or similar organizations to see if the organization wanting to take your money is legitimate.

Seniors: Not sure what you will do next year?. Check out “Year Up Puget Sound.” This is a tuition-free post-secondary education and training program that provides low-income young adults, ages 18-24, with a combination of hands-on skill development, college credits, and corporate internships. In exchange for the commitment Year Up students earn a stipend of $150-$200/week, 18 free college credits, tailored support, and entry/connections to leading corporations -84% of Year Up alumni are employed at competitive wages with upward mobility and/or in college full time within 4 months of graduating. Justin Berteaux will be in the Commons at Roosevelt during both lunches on Friday 5/17/13. You can also contact him directly at JBerteaux@YearUp.org or get application forms from their website, www.yearup.org.
