RHS New Student Welcome Night on June 4 at 6:30pm. All incoming Roosevelt HS freshmen and their parents/guardians are invited to attend. There will be a brief program in the theatre so that our new Roughriders can meet the Counselors, Administrators, and Support Staff who will help students be successful at Roosevelt. We will have available the summer reading assignment and information about athletic packets for fall sports. The Student Store will be open for purchase of Roosevelt gear. Coaches, as well as club representatives, will be there to answer questions. Some teachers. Families can also make changes to their students’ previously submitted course requests at this time. Questions? Contact the Counseling Office at 206-252-4827.
June 4-6 Schedule: There are several end of year events that are impacting our schedule. Please review this schedule. On June 4, we will be recognizing our seniors and "moving up" our underclass students in our Moving Up Assembly. After the assembly there is a long lunch/bbq and a series of fun activities for students. On June 5th and June 6th, some of our students are taking State mandated end of course (EOC) exams for Algebra, Geometry and Biology. Only students taking exams on those days will need to report at our normal times. All other students are late arrival. Please contact the main office with any questions.
RHS Special Education Parents/Guardians: Come join us for our last of the school year Parent Meeting. Thursday, June 6, 7-9pm in the RHS Library. We've had some great conversations and sharing of ideas. All are welcome. Hope you can join us! (Heads up, I've been warned that parking may be a challenge.) If you have questions about the meeting, contact Peggy Peterson, pegpete56@yahoo.com.
Rider Day Volunteers Needed: Here are two great volunteer opportunities to start off our 2013-14 school year! Both focus on critical activities to support students and families the day before school starts September 3, 2013 and both great ways to interact with staff, students and other families!
- Rider Day Co-Chair: On the morning of Sept. 3 all Roosevelt students come to campus to pick up class schedules, purchase ASB cards, get ID photos taken, pick up bus passes, etc. Your task will be to work with co-chair Sharon Rodgers and school staff to ensure volunteers are in place - usually we do two shifts). Requires 5-10 hours in August to recruit and assign 20-30 volunteers to pre-established stations and - ideally – be on-site the morning of Rider Day. (First Day packets handled separately, see next item.) Please contact Sharon at rooseveltptsa.pres@gmail.com.
- Rider Day First Day Packet Assistant: You will work with Pat Johnson and other volunteers to collate/stuff critical school information packets for families. Help set-up materials and provide oversight of parent and student packet-stuffers on Rider Day morning. If you can help lead this vital project please contact Pat at patdjohnson@comcast.net. Or if you or your student can come help assemble packets, please let me know and save the date! (Note: This is an easy way for students to earn community service hours!)

PTSA NEWS
PTSA Volunteer Coordinator needed for next year: After 2+ years it’s time for me to pass the baton to a new Volunteer Coordinator. As Coordinator you'll help support Roosevelt programs, by supplying event leads with volunteer lists from our online Volunteer Database. Minimal knowledge of Excel, good organizational skills, and the ability to send/answer email inquiries is all that's needed for this position. Most work can be done from your home computer on a flexible timeframe that suits your schedule. (Find more details on the PTSA volunteer page). I will provide a short training and file of reference samples. It would be great to identify a new Volunteer Coordinator before Sept. for a smooth transition. Like to volunteer and want to find out more? Please contact Pat Johnson at patdjohnson@comcast.net or 206-850-5509 cell.
