PTSA Meeting this Wednesday, 7PM
Wednesday, May 23, 7 - 8:30pm in the RHS Library, All Roosevelt parents are invited to this meeting as we review the PTSA budget for the 2012-13 school year and hear updates from Principal Brian Vance. The PTSA Nominating Committee is seeking candidates for next year’s PTSA Board – come to the meeting and find out how you can get involved with the PTSA in the upcoming school year.
The 2012 spring musical, No, No, Nanette opens this week!
No, No, Nanette is a tap dancing musical comedy set in the stylish and vicacious 1920s. This promises to be yet another fabulous Roosevelt High School production with a fun storyline including comical entanglements of love and friends, fabulous dance numbers, colorful sets, vibrant costumes, and a great musical score that includes classics such as Tea for Two and I Want to be Happy!
Join us at one of the six performances: May 24, 25, 31st at 7:30pm and June 1, 2 at 7:30 and June 3 at 2:30pm. Tickets can be purchased online now at: www.showtix4u.com or at the RHS box office on Fridays between 11am-1pm. For all questions, contact the RHS Drama Boosters at aford2009@gmail.com.
RHS Band Neighborhood Parade and BBQ
June 9, noon. End of the year party for all band members, family and friends! Band members will regale the locals with a mad march around the neighborhood and return to RHS for sumptuous grilled burgers and hot dogs. Group photo day as well. Festivities begin @ 12noon. Potluck for salads, desserts, chips and drinks; Band Boosters provide burgers and dogs, buns and condiments. Vocal Jazz Informational Meeting on Wednesday, May 30th at 2:45 in the Piano Room, #123. Vocal Jazz members and Mr. Brown will be there to answer questions and give you an idea of what we do! Auditions will be on June 4th, 5th and 6th.
Summer driver training program
June 25 to July 25. Tuition is $599. See the Registration Addendum for a possible discount. Classes will be located at Ballard, Blaine, Cleveland, Franklin, Nathan Hale, Ingraham, Roosevelt, Chief Sealth and West Seattle. Registration is by mail and packets are available in the Counseling Office. Register before June 13 to be guaranteed your first school choice. Call Traffic Education office at (206) 252-4735 with your questions.
SENIORS
Senior Plans Were Due 5/18/12 and Service Learning is due 5/25/12
Seniors, your Senior Plans Report, with stamped, addressed envelope for your final transcript, was due to the Counseling Office Friday 5/18/12. TOO MANY OF YOU HAVE NOT TURNED THIS IN YET. You cannot check out and participate in graduation without submitting this important form. Also, as you know, 60 hours of service learning must be completed, documented and the form turned into the Counseling Office by Friday 5/25/12. This is a state graduation requirement that cannot be waived. See your counselor ASAP if you have any questions about either your Senior Plans Report or service learning.
Graduation Tickets
Graduation tickets were mailed to Seniors' families last week. Each family was allocated 8 tickets; if you need more than 8 tickets, please contact Marjorie Gamble in the front office. Families are asked to return tickets they will not need to the Roosevelt Front Office in order to accommodate those needing more than 8 tickets. As a reminder, Graduation will be held in Memorial Stadium on Tuesday, June 19th at 5:00 pm. Thank you, from the Class of 2012 Parent Reps

Information Session about Obtaining a Nomination to a Military Service Academy
The office of Rep. Rick Larsen, WA-02, will hold an informational session on May 22 for high school students interested in obtaining a Congressional nomination to the military service academies. The event will be co-hosted by the offices of Senators Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell. WHAT: Information night to help students and interested parties better understand the nomination and application process for the U.S. Service Academies. Representatives from the five service academies will attend. WHO: The offices of Congressman Larsen, Senator Murray and Senator Cantwell WHERE: Mount Vernon City Council chambers, 910 Cleveland Avenue, Mount Vernon WA, 98273 WHEN: Tuesday, May 22 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Students interested in participating should contact Kate Osterback, Service Academy Coordinator for Congressman Rick Larsen, with any questions at (425) 252-3188 or Kate.Osterback@mail.house.gov.

- Graduating 2012 seniors with majors in Engineering or Fashion Design. Do you still need money for college expenses? I may have a scholarship for you. Email the following information to lbeaston@seattlesschools.org: Name of college you were accepted to for Fall 2012 & intended/declared major. Deadline May 22.
- Rita Bubak Scholarship Application This scholarship is awarded once per year in June for $500 to a former student of Pathfinder K-8 School.
- North Seattle Community College Education Fund is offering 1-year Washington state resident tuition scholarship to outstanding students graduating from Seattle Public High Schools. To be eligible students must have applied to North Seattle Community College and have received the Student ID number. (application online) and graduate in Spring 2012 with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 from a Seattle Public High School.
- NW Career Colleges If you have applied to and been accepted to any of the included schools, you might be eligible for a $1,000 scholarship. Please bring Dr. Beaston your letter of acceptance if you wish to be considered. Deadline: June 24, 2012 or when I am out of scholarships.

Part Time Job with the U.S. Attorney’s Office
The United States Attorney’s Office has a part-time position available for students. The program is under the Student Temporary Employment Program and is a wonderful opportunity for students who wish to acquire practical work experience in a legal setting. There is one paid position available at the Seattle Office working for our Criminal Division and one paid position in our IT Division. We are also seeking Student Volunteers in all divisions for our Seattle and Tacoma Offices.
