COMMUNITY NEWS
The UW Office of Admissions wants your opinion (with corrected link). We're redesigning our online college application and we want your opinion about the design. Who better than students? The UW will be at Roosevelt Monday 6/18 and Wednesday 6/20, in the library after school to conduct anonymous interviews with students interested in volunteering their time to help improve the form. We know this is a busy time of year so our thanks in advance — and rest assured that nothing you say in the interview will ever affect your application for admission to UW, should you choose to apply.
The review will take about 15 minutes. Your comments will directly influence the design as the UW updates and improves the online application experience for more than 30,000 students every year — here in Seattle and around the world. To show our appreciation, we have some small gifts for you.
Corrected link for UW research sessions
UW sends their apologies to anyone who tried to access the sign up page. There was an error with the link provided. If you are interested in participating in the UW Office of Admissions research session, please sign-up with this corrected link: www.admit.uw.edu/RHSResearchProject.

Host Families needed for exchange students
- The World Affairs Council in Seattle is recruiting local host families for our summer youth leadership programs for high school students between the ages of 15 to 18 years old from Mexico (July 20-August 4), Zambia (August 1-15), and Iraq (August 2-13). The students, who speak English fluently, have been selected by the U.S. Embassy in their respective countries from a pool of thousands to become ambassadors for their country. Host families with a teenage child in the household are encouraged to apply! We are also looking for families to host college students from the Middle East (July 28 - August 2). We have extended the deadline! Applications are still being accepted. Please direct any questions to Rachel Paris-Lambert at rparislambert@world-affairs.org. Further details are listed on the World Affairs Council Website on the Homestay Program page.
- HOST VISITING INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS! FIUTS hosts help to welcome new University of Washington students and scholars from around the globe for their first week in the Pacific Northwest. By offering your hospitality and friendship as a FIUTS host, you can promote dialogue, cultural exchange, and international goodwill. Learn more about hosting and sign up today! This summer FIUTS has several programs that you can get involved with: WCE Summer China Programs: host visiting Chinese grade schoolers for a weekend in July, Host visiting high school students from Azerbaijan as they visit Seattle for 12 nights as part of a US State Department program to promote friendly relations and civic engagement between Azerbaijan and the US, Youth Leadership Program with Bosnia & Herzegovina: Similar to the Azerbaijan program, hosts can welcome visiting high school students from Bosnia as they study leadership and community building skills, or Welcome Week Hosting for Fall Quarter: For families that want to host new international students coming to the UW, our welcome week program is a great way to start learning about the world. Students come for their first week in Seattle, and homestay families help them to get acquainted with their new home in the Pacific Northwest to ease their transition into life in the US. Learn more here: http://www.fiuts.org/community/homestay.
- Host families needed in July for French students. Connections, Inc., based in Woodinville, WA, is again bringing a small group of teens from France to Seattle July 12 - August 2nd. Last summer we placed many with RHS families and it was a wonderful experience for everyone involved. The students will be taken on organized site-seeking trips Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. That leaves them free to spend weekends with their host families. If you can host during all or part of this time period, please contact Patty Turnberg, the Seattle Coordinator and former RHS mom, at p.turnberg@comcast.net.
