ANNOUNCEMENTS
Hollyberry Concert - Dec 20, 7:30pm, RHS Theater Come experience RHS tradition and support the musicians at RHS for an evening of great music -- featuring the three RHS orchestras and 2 bands. Celebrate the coming holidays with selections from Handel, Dvorak and many others, culminating at the end with a rendition of "Sleigh Ride" you won't forget!
Winter Toy Drive. Key Club and DECA are joining forces to host Roosevelt’s first Winter Toy Drive! Have your students deliver new toys or donations to the main office, library or counseling office from now until December 20th. Donations will go to the Seattle Children’s Home , a non-profit organization that responds to the mental-health needs of children and their families throughout Washington. Suggested toys include: markers, colored pencils, sports balls, easy puzzles, LEGO sets, clothing, socks and blankets.
Mark your calendar for a Jan 17 RHS PTSA Forum: Teens, Marijuana & Alcohol Thu, Jan 17 at 7pm at Roosevelt High School. Since initiative 1- 502 was approved last month, parents have been asking what they should be saying to their children about the law and about marijuana. In response, Roosevelt High School PTSA and Nathan Hale High School will host parent education nights in January: “Teens, Marijuana & Alcohol: Setting the Framework for Healthy Communication.” Both will feature Kevin Haggerty from the University of Washington Social Development Research. (This program will also be presented Tue, Jan 15, 7pm at Nathan Hale). Read flyer and see page 4 of the December Rider Record.
Please donate formal and business clothing! Cleaning out closets over the holiday break? Please hold on to any items you’d be willing to donate for the 2nd Annual Dress to Impress Sale coming March! We’re seeking gently worn "vintage" women’s long or short dresses, skirts, tops, jackets, purses, pumps, jewelry, and men’s jackets, slacks, shirts, ties and dress shoes. (All donations are tax deductible and proceeds go to benefit the RHS Class of 2014 Graduation Fund.) Watch for donation and sale details in coming in January. Thanks so much!
Volunteers Needed for Jan 16, 2013 "College Goal" Event. Roosevelt will be hosting a FAFSA workshop at Roosevelt from 6pm – 8pm. We are just one of many sites all over the state participating in “College Goal Sunday Washington”. This workshop will be an opportunity for students/parents and guardians to sit down with an expert and actually complete the FAFSA online. Although other schools in the district have hosted in prior years, this is our first time. And to help make the event successful, we need volunteers! More information.
RHS Class of 2013 Giftwrap Fundraiser. Barnes & Noble Northgate, Seniors will be wrapping gifts Dec 19, 5-9pm and Dec 22, 1-5pm. Gifts that have been purchased at the mall may be brought in for wrapping with all donations going to the Class of 2013.
COUNSELING & CAREER CENTER NEWS

PSAT and PLAN Results. We just got back from the testing companies the PSAT results (from test on 10/17) and the PLAN Results (from test on 10/3). We are returning PSAT results to juniors 12/18-12/21 in their U.S. History classes (12/18 Louden, 12/19 K. Barnes, 12/20 Grace, 12/21 Wiley and K. MacDonald). We will hand back PLAN and PSAT results to sophomores the week after break in LA 10 classes (1/10 Roux, VonPohle, Nolet) and 1/11 (N. MacDonald, Karl, Hall). We are encouraging students to show their results to their parents/guardians, and also telling them that we are happy to meet with student/parent or guardian to go over the results in greater detail than the general overview we will provide when returning the results to students in classes.
Teen Intern Program application deadline Dec 31. The Teen Intern Program (Seattle Parks & Rec), is a great opportunity to explore your personal and career interests, enhance your resume, gain relevant hands on work experience, develop your leadership skills, meet some new friends, help your community, AND earn $200. To find out if you are a good fit for this program, read details on the flyer posted on the Counseling Office bulletin board. SENIORS
Time to focus on the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) You may begin to file the FAFSA on Jan 1, 2013. You will need a PIN if you do not have one to begin this process. If you are interested in information given at the Financial Aid Workshop on Dec 4 at RHS, a few brochures are still available. Come and get a copy in the counseling office. See FAFSA deadlines here. Scholarship info. So your student has completed his/her College admissions Applications! Now it is time to turn attention to finding scholarships. Scholarship Information for RHS can be found online.

Senior Yearbook Grad Ads. It’s time to dig through those cute baby pictures of graduating seniors and composing messages for Grad Ads. Find the order form in the Main Office, outside of room 239, or online. New this year, pictures can be uploaded to www.hjeshare.com. Use the school code HJ07136 and send us your photos. Don’t let the upcoming holidays get in the way of creating this memory! Space guaranteed through December 21st. After that – on a space-available basis.
STUDENT CLUBS/GROUPS
Winter Ball is officially happening! Tickets will be sold the week before break on Monday, Wednesday and Friday in the Concession Stand during both lunches for $15. They will also be sold very day after break until the dance. Buy your tickets early! ASR
