In response, Roosevelt High School PTSA and Nathan Hale High School will host parent education nights in January: “Teens, Marijuana & Alcohol: Setting the Framework for Healthy Communication.” Both will feature Kevin Haggerty from the University of Washington Social Development Research. (This program will also be presented Tue, Jan 15, 7pm at Nathan Hale). Read flyer and see page 4 of the December Rider Record.

Please Donate Dressy & Business Attire for Roosevelt Fundraiser! Have formalwear, dressy or business attire in the back of your closet, that either no longer fits or won't likely be worn again? We're seeking donations of: women's short or long party dresses, business attire, dress shoes, purses, jackets, bracelets, necklaces, and men's sport jackets, dress shirts, shoes, slacks and ties. All donated items will be offered for sale, to help teens and parents purchase wonderful “vintage” outfits at bargain prices! The 2nd Annual Dress to Impress Sale will be held at Roosevelt on March 1 & 2. (More details coming soon!) To donate, drop off items in Roosevelt's main office during school hours (additional donation sites coming soon) Donations may even be tax deductible; check with your tax advisor. Seniors, if you still need one PE to graduate, have never been a TA and have a full schedule for second semester with academics, performing arts and/or other graduation requirements, you can also submit an academic PE waiver for second semester. The waiver forms are available in the counseling office. Be sure to fill out your second semester schedule on the reverse side. The forms are due to your counselor no later than Friday 1/18/13. If you have any questions about this, see your counselor ASAP.

SENIORS

Updated transcripts Seniors, as you know, most colleges want to see your first semester grades. You do not need to send updated transcripts to the UW or to any state school in California. And, if you have applied to colleges on the common application, your counselor will automatically send those colleges updated transcripts starting 2/11/13, when first semester grades are added to your transcript. BUT FOR ALL OTHER FOUR YEAR COLLEGES TO WHICH YOU HAVE APPLIED, please bring into the counseling office for each non-common app college to which you have applied, a stamped envelope, with the address of the admissions office AND with your name on the back of the envelope so we know whose transcript to put in the envelope! We need those envelopes by 1/31/13 and we will then mail those transcripts starting 2/12/13. See your counselor ASAP if you have any questions about this.

The Diversity Makes a Difference Scholarship, which is sponsored by the NW Asian Weekly Foundation, honors young people who take action to increase cross-cultural understanding and awareness in the community. These onetime $1,000 (and sometimes more) college scholarships have been given out every year since 1994. If you would like to be considered for this nomination from RHS; email a 400-word letter detailing why you think diversity is important; and email a clear photo suitable for publication purposes to the teacher, counselor, or principal of your choice asking them to nominate you. That person can then write you a recommendation. The deadline for teachers to recommend students and give that recommendation and the materials to Dr. Beaston is: January 21, 2013. Students should give their teachers plenty of time to write the recommendation.
