RHS Activities and Organizations

RHS provides a wide variety of student activities and organizations, curricular and extra-curricular, available to all RHS students. The more the merrier, so don't be shy; join one of the many fun and exciting groups here at Roosevelt today!

For further information, students should see Melissa R. Boswell, mrboswell@seattleschools.org, Activities Coordinator or the faculty member listed as the advisor. Remember that you must purchase an ASB card to be eligible to participate in these activities. Money raised from ASB cards goes to support these programs.

Clubs

We have a wide variety of clubs from our Rider/Riderettes hip-hop dance group that compete in the Bubblin' Brown competition, La Raza, Lacrosse (Boys & Girls), Tap, Chess Team that competes with other schools in the area, Monster Design where students learn engineering concepts, to our Chinese, Japanese, French, Vietnamese and Latin Clubs. There is something for everyone and if there is not a club that catches your eye- create one! New clubs are formed every year by students who are passionate about a variety of interests.

Government

Associated Students of Roosevelt (ASR): Student government, led by your elected school officers, plan and implement various student school activities; work on student-led initiatives with Administrators, Staff and parent groups, and run the Student Senate. ASR officers are elected in the spring and Student Senate Officers are elected in their homeroom classes. Senate Meetings are held monthly to keep students informed of ASR activities and gain input on student initiatives.

Class Officers/ Student Board Members: Each class elects student representatives in the spring, except freshman who are elected in the fall. Class officers plan and implement student activities, fundraise for their class and assist the school wide goals of ASR. Student Board Members assist their class officers with their particular class goals and the goals of ASR.

Media

The Roosevelt News: A class that plans and produces the school newspaper. Open to junior and seniors who have taken journalism and have been chosen by the advisor.

Annual Staff: Produces the Strenuous Life, Roosevelt's annual yearbook. Open to any student by application and interview during their sophomore year. Taken as a class in the junior and senior years.
Advisor: Janine Magidman

Performance

Drama-Fest: A week long series of one-act plays cast and directed by the Advanced Drama students. After school each day two to three plays are performed and judged by a panel. The last day concludes with the Best of Fest where the top three plays as voted on by the panel, are performed again in the evening. Usually performed in November.

Musical: Open to any student by audition during first semester, taken as a class second semester, with performance in late May.

Marching Band: Marches at football games, parades and special events. Also performs as a concert band for concerts and assemblies.

Jazz Band: Performs at various competitions and school concerts. Open to any experienced musician by audition.

Vocal Jazz: An ensemble of students and a rhythm section that sings classic Jazz tunes at various competitions and school concerts. Chosen by audition.

Concert Orchestra: Performs at school concerts, Spring Musical, National Orchestra events and in the annual Northwest Musical Festival in Gresham, OR.

Chamber Orchestra: Performs at school concerts, Spring Musical, National Orchestra events, and the Northwest Musical Festival in Gresham, OR. This is a select group of classical musicians chosen by audition.

Spirit Squads

Cheerleaders: students dedicated to cheering on their athletic teams. Tryouts are in the spring for the following year. Open to sophomore, juniors and seniors.

Teddy Bears: Four students who represent Roosevelt school spirit at games, events and assemblies. Tryouts are in the spring.
