School Nurse

My name is Roselyn Lane and I am the school nurse at Roosevelt, a position I have held for many years now. I couldn't ask for a better climate in which to work and I also could not ask for a more challenging, interesting, or delightful age group to interact with.

I am responsible for the health and safety of all students and staff in the building and I work closely with the Roosevelt-Marshall Teen Health Center, our 'in-house' clinic for those students who have parental permission to receive health care there.

The health services available to students include health screenings (vision, hearing, scoliosis), illness and injury assessment, medication administration, first aid, and emergency care. I also actively participate in health education and health promotion.

It is helpful for me to:

have access to current telephone numbers;
know that any student who takes medication at school (yes, even medication available over the counter) has a completed and current Med @ School form on file in the Health Office even if he/she takes the medication on his/her own;
be informed of any health-related issue that may impact your student's ability to learn, attend class regularly, or to get about the building safely (completing and returning the Health Registration form is a good start.) I especially need to know about life-threatening health issues such as diabetes, seizures, or allergies with possible anaphylaxis.

I hope to use this web site as a forum to share with you health information, helpful guidelines to maintain health, and to address the common illnesses that could affect your school-age children.

IMMUNIZATION REQUIREMENTS

Washington State law requires ALL students to be immunized against certain diseases, a certain number of times, in a specific sequence in order to attend school. If your high school student has not had the following immunizations they may be prevented from remaining at Roosevelt until it can be proven that they are indeed current. Those students who are not in compliance with the state law should have received notification from District Health Services this summer as to what immunizations were incomplete and were to have attended to addressing this deficit, and informing Health Services of the new/additional dates.

4 DPT/TD with the last one ON or AFTER the 4th birthday. A booster should be given every 10 years but this is not required for school attendance though recommended.
3 Polio (OPV or IPV--only IPV is given now) with the last one ON or AFTER the 4th birthday.
2 MMR (Measles) with the first ON or AFTER the 1st birthday, the second anytime after 30 days but usually given by the 6th grade.
3 Hepatitis B vaccines--the series is usually completed within 6 months.
