Your Feedback is Wanted - Please Complete These Two Surveys

In a partnership with the RHS PTSA and the RHS Accreditation Committee, we are asking for your feedback regarding Roosevelt High School. The following links connect you with two surveys that enable us to take a look at what we are doing well, what we can improve on and what we can focus on in the future.

There are two separate survey links below. The first link is to a survey that is to be used by the PTSA to set the priorities for their work. The second link is to be used by the Accreditation Committee for our accreditation report and to allow us to modify our school improvement plan as needed. Thank you ahead of time for you participation.

Your input is important.

Thank you,

RHS PTSA and RHS Accreditation Committee

Please Support Karina Lopez and Her Family

We are asking for your help for Roosevelt student, Karina Lopez, and her family. Karina's mother, Noemi Lopez, was murdered a week ago, allegedly by her ex-husband who has since fled. Karina and her two younger siblings are now in the care of a family member.

A benevolent account has been set up at Washington Mutual in the name of Noemi Lopez. You can stop by any Washington Mutual location to give a donation. As well, there is also a Paypal account open for donations set up by a neighbor of Ms. Lopez's who is the editor of the Rainier Valley Post (the link is at the top and to the right).

Please consider a $5 or $10 donation or more if possible. These siblings have been effectively orphaned and need to know that they have the support of their school communities.

Thank you,
Melissa Westbrook and Maureen Dahlstrom
Co-Presidents, RHS PTSA

Prepare for the SAT!

SAT Prep, Inc., offers an excellent opportunity for students to prepare for the SAT. This SAT Prep Course is offered to students again this school year at Nathan Hale and Roosevelt High Schools. Analytical tools for mathematical concepts, problem solving, critical reading, and vocabulary are taught. Essay writing, grammar, geometry and algebra topics are included in the course. The course is designed to decrease test anxiety and familiarize students with test directions, types of questions, and test-taking strategies. For more information about dates, times, locations and costs of the course, download the SAT Prep Flyer.

Interested in Being More Involved This Year?

Roosevelt has many wonderful programs that just would not run without the time, energy and resources of parents, guardians and other volunteers. We have several Board positions and Committee positions that we need to fill now. Some of these are once/twice a month commitments, others are a one-time, short-term commitment while still others are ongoing, monthly commitments.

Check the 2008 - 2009 PTSA Roster for open positions. The PTSA Job Descriptions document will provide you with more details on some of these positions. If you have more questions, please contact a current PTSA Board or Committee member listed on the PTSA page.

So what are the benefits? You get to be in the know early on about issues and events at our school. You get to meet and know more of the staff and teachers. You get to work with other parents you might never meet any other way. The work can be really gratifying and when you volunteer for the PTSA, your efforts help every parent and student in the school.
